Laura Mae Curtis (1960-2018)

Laura Mae Curtis, 58, of Poway, CA, died December 26,2018. Laura was born on August 25,1960, in Downey, CA. She passed away on December 26th in Escondido, CA, due to complications directly following neck surgery. She is survived by son James and Marna, daughter Barbie and Oscar, and two grandchildren, Mila and Makai. Laura’s surviving siblings include Mary, Bonnie, Lonnie, Darryl, and Nanci. Preceding Laura’s passing are her parents Violet Ruth and Johnnie Curtis, and brother Gary.

Laura attended Santiago High School in Garden Grove, CA. She graduated from a Pentecostal Christian Program as a church counselor, and she was a licensed minister for the State of California. Laura shared her spirituality openly and willingly, and provided independent spiritual counseling and services.

For over two decades Laura was the Property Manager for Carriage Village Apartments in Poway, CA. Most of Laura’s working career, she was also an accomplished baker, working many years at Vons, and then took her talents to Walmart. Her gorgeous cakes were in demand and the delight of many events.

Laura loved her family dearly and enjoyed her grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed all kinds of music and would sing along to her heart’s content and occasionally express her love of life through painting. She loved the ocean, going to favorite spots like La Jolla and Oceanside Pier as well as time spent riding her motorcycle. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held January 8, 2019 at 10:00A.M. at McLeod Mortuary Chapel, 1919 East Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA. 92029. Burial to follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido, CA. 92027.
