The Grim Reaper, Death, claims another aged mother in Israel after intense suffering from paralysis. Mrs. Matilda Cron, mother of our townman Joseph E. Cron, died at her home on the headwaters of Dry Fork, Saturday at the age of 79 years. Mrs. Cron suffered a stroke of paralysis about 4 months ago and since that time had been helpless, requiring the assistance of the family to move. She was aware of the fact that her death was near at hand and welcomed the end as a release from her suffering.
The deceased was born and raised in this country and had spent all her life here. As early as 1858, she became a member of the Presbyterian Church, but in 1881 she as converted to the Primitive Baptists and connected herself to that church. Her burial was at East Station Camp churchyard Sunday, where a large crowd of friends assembled to see her remains laid to rest.
The deceased was the mother of J.E. Cron of Gallatin, J.W. and W.D. Cron and of M.A. Buck, M.A. Adcock and J.E. Ventress of this country.
THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, September 14, 1924: Death of Mrs. Narcissa Chron Morton
'Mrs. Narcissa Morton, an old resident of Howland, died Monday night at 9:15 o'clock. Mrs. Morton was married twice. She was married to Billie Chron in Kentucky. E. C., G. F, and W. I. Chron and Mrs. Lula C. Rowell were children of her first marriage. After the death of Mr. Chron she was married to William Morton in Tennessee. Four children were born to this union, Mrs. F. L. West, Mrs. W. F. Vaughn, Dock Morton and D. F. Morton. Mrs. Rowell died Oct. 14, 1897, Dock Morton died Feb. 11, 1902 and William Morton died June 8, 1918-, all of whom were buried at McGlasson cemetery. Of the remaining children, Mrs. West, G. T. and E.C. Chron live at Howland, Mrs. Vaughn at Chandler, Ariz., W. I. Chron at Healdton, Okla. and D. T. Morton at Morton. She also left a step-daughter, Miss Mae Morton, who is assistant pastor of the Ross Avenue Baptist church of Dallas. All the family were present at the funeral except D. T. Morton, who is ill with typhoid fever. Her only sister, Mrs. Reynolds and her daughter Mrs. Walter Lane and family of Cooper, were present at the funeral.
Mrs. Morton had been ill for two weeks but her condition was not considered serious until a few hours before her death. The children living at a distance were unable to reach her bedside before she passed away. W. I. Chron drove over from Oklahoma in a car Monday night. Miss May, Mrs. W. F. Vaughn and daughter, Cella May, arrived at Roxton on the noon train Tuesday.
Mrs. Morton came from Tennessee with her family in 1895 and settled on the Shelton farm, west of Howland. She had been a member of the Christian church since early womanhood. The funeral services were held at the home of G. T. Chron, with whom she had made her home for a number of years. Rev. W. F. Davis of Detroit had charge of the services and was assisted by Revs. W. N. Vernon of Blossom and H. B. Chambers, pastor of the Methodist church here. Rev. Mr. Davis read a portion of John 14, beginning with the beautiful passage, 'In my Father's house are many mansions.' The songs 'Rock of Ages,' and 'Abide With Me,' were sung. A large number of friends attended the services, after which the remains were laid to rest in the McGlasson cemetery by the side of her husband and two children. Besides her children, she left a number of devoted grandchildren and a host of friends. Mrs. Vaughn and Cella May, and Mrs. Reynolds are staying over with relatives for a few days. W. I. Chron and Miss May Morton returned to their respective homes Wednesday.'
Retired Farmer dies - Taken from a newspaper article in 1944
E.C. Chron, 63, retired farmer died at 4:30 A.M. Saturday at his home of a malignant ailment. He had lived in Crosby County since 1925.
Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the First Baptist Church with Rev. J.H. McClain, pastor officiating. Burial was in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Marr Funeral Home.
Mr. Chron was born in Kentucky in 1880. His mother remarried and moved to Tennessee a few years later. When he was fourteen years old, his family moved to Lamar County, Texas where he later married Miss Goldie Mathews and raised his family.
In 1925, Mr. Chron was converted in a revival at Howland, Texas under the preaching of Dr. M.E. Davis, now at Howard Payne College at Brownwood. Dr. Davis was also a great friend of Mr. Chron.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Goldie Chron and five children, Virgil Chron, Ralls; Mrs. Dewey Wells, Ralls; Mrs. T.V. Meacham, Plainview; Mrs. G.J. Hogue, Whiteface; and Mrs. T.C. Smith, Houston; 13 grandchildren, one of which preceded him in death nine years ago. Virgil Allen Chron is in the service of his country at Ames, Iowa, and was unable to be present for funeral services. He also leaves two brothers, W.I. Chron and D.T. Morton, a half-brother and two half-sisters, Mrs. Celia West, Howland and Mrs. Aultie Gardy of Flagstaff, Arizona.
The many words of sympathy, kind deeds, and beautiful floral offering were proofs of his many friends.

RALLS (Special) - Services for Joe Nathan Chron, 40, who drowned Thanksgiving Day in Big Ben National Park, will be at 3 p.m. today in the Emma Church of Christ. James Eubanks, minister, and D.C. Lawrence and Douglas Lawler, both former ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Chron was reported missing on Thanksgiving Day and his body was found Wednesday in Boquillas Canyon in the Big Ben National Park. The body was found by a group of Mexican nationals some seven miles from the spot where his boat overturned while on a Boy Scout outing.
Chron was one of the sponsors for the trip, which involved about three dozen persons. He was an elder in the Emma Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Berta Fay; two sons, Tony Joe and Kelly Brad, of the home; a daughter, Deborah of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Chron of Ralls; four brothers, V. Allen and E.C., both of Anchorage, Alaska, Bob of Phoenix and Ivan of Granbury; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Orm of Weatherford.

Chron moved to Ralls in 1925 from his birthplace, Howland.

W.I. Chron killed in Truck Accident - Newspaper article in the Heralton Herald, November 21, 1946
W.I. Chron, retired Healdton cafe operator, was fatally injured shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday when his pickup truck was struck by a larger truck at the intersection of highway No. 76 and Highway No. 70 between Healdton and Ardmore.
Chron died at 9:15 a.m. about a quarter of an hour after the ambulance had brought him to the sanitarium. Hospital attaches said he had a broken leg and severe chest injuries.
Details of the accident were not readily available. Highway patrol officers were checking the circumstances at the scene at 10:30 a.m. Both trucks were badly damaged.
William Isom Chron was born November 28, 1879 in Jackson County, Tennessee and died November 20th, 1946. He was married to Miss Tennie Sain at Bennington, Oklahoma, October 28th, 1900 and to this union were born 10 children, six of whom survive. He had lived in Healdton for many years, the greater part of which he was engaged in cafe work. During the years he lived here, he made many friends who regret his passing. He was a member of the Ardmore Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his companion, Mrs. Tennie Chron of the home address, six children, Fred Chron, Houston, Texas; Sam Chron, Conroe, Texas; Grady Chron of the home address in Healdton; Mrs. C.C. Watson, Conroe, Texas; Mrs. Earl Trammell, Healdton; Mrs. Owen D. Reedy, Long Beach, Cal; six grandchildren, two half sisters, Mrs. Celia West of Howland, Texas, and Mrs. Aulty Gordon of Flagstaff, Arizona, and a half brother, Dutch Morton of Ralls, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Olive cemetery with Ardmore and Healdton Masonic Lodges conducting graveside services.

Jenny was born in Dexter, MO on 2/25/1911, the daughter of John and Maude (Davis) Anderson. She came to Flint in 1928 and was united in marriage with Vernon Chron (b. Scott Co, MO), on 2/23/1935. Jenny was a faithful member of the First General Baptist Church. Mrs. Chron was an employee of AC Spark Plug for many years. She and her husband were owners of Jenny's Club Car on S. Saginaw St. for 25 yrs and she was also owner of Fisher Pantry for an number of years.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Bill and wife Mildred Chron of Burton, and Ron Chron and companion Jude Irwin, both of Grand Blanc. 6 grandchildren Jim Chron, Terry Chron, Judy Thibeault, Kathy Dawson, Perry Chron and Pam Borrow; 10 gr-grandchild, 6 gr-gr-grandchildren; sister-in-law Lucille Anderson, former daughter-in-law Marian Chron, several nieces and nephews. Jewel Chron was born on June 20, 1911 in Missouri to Dimit and Emma Chron and died March 5, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee. Jewel was a sauderer and lived in Tennessee for over 20 years. After three days in the hospital, he died of lobar pneumonia and pulmonary tuberculosis. He is buried in Memorial Park in Memphis, Tennessee.

Thelma Juanita Chron Kies, 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at the Lutheran Home, where she had resided for several years.
She was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Charleston, Mo., daughter of William and Dessie Sitzes Chron. She was married to William J. Kies Jr. Dec. 11, 1942. To them were born two sons, Joseph and Jim. They made their home in Cape Girardeau.
Thelma was an interior decorator, decorating many of the KFVS Dream Homes, which were built by Riverside Lumber Co., with whom her husband was associated. In later years, she sold real estate for Century 21 McElrath Heartland Realty Co. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was especially interested in the youth, teaching Sunday School and giving children's sermons. She was also a member of Cape Rock Chapter No. 60 O.E.S. She was an avid bridge player and loved her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, both of her parents, her son Joseph, her only brother Bill, and a nephew. She is survived by a son, Jim of Frankfort, Ky.; a granddaughter, Dessie Kies of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Norma Blattner of Cape Girardeau, Ruth Trost of Bensonville, Ill., Monica Chron of Streamwood, Ill.; five nephews; six nieces; several cousins; and a long time devoted friend, Kim Davidson of Cape Girardeau.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1820 Perryville Road. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Bass and the Rev. Joel Hebert officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park. 'Jewel Verba Hogue, 93, formerly of Paris, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Brownwood Regional Hospital in Brownwood after a brief illness. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Evergreen Cemetery with the her grandson-in-law, the Rev. Cary Killough, officiating. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. She was born April 11,1906, in Howland to Everett and Goldie Chron. She was married to Glen Hogue for 50 years before his death in 1975. They were married in Howland. She was a homemaker, a retired school teacher, and a member of First Baptist Church in Paris. Surviving are her son, Larry Hogue and wife Sue of Brownwood; three grandchildren, Lori Killough of Brock, Robin Hogue of Brownwood, and Glen Partin of Lake Brownwood; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Goldie Danner, and two granddaughters, Vickie Shrum and Lana Witt.'
Obituary of Wilbern Samuel Chron (1919-2001)
Funeral services will be held for Wilbern Samuel Chron, 81, who departed this life for our Heavenly home, promised to those bought and ransomed by the blood of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Sam was born on Feb. 23, 1919 in Healdton, Oklahoma to William Isom Chron and Tennie Elizabeth Saine. Sam was educated in Healdton Schools and was a member of the football and track teams.
Like many thousands of young men of that era, he too was swept up in the winds of World War II. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 1940, just months before the United States was caught up in the war by the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. His Guard Unit was activated in ten days after he joined and became a part of the 120th Quarter Master, Company "B," 45th Division as well as a part of the famed Thunderbirds. He served in Sicily, Naples and Central Europe. He earned the EAME Service Ribbon, one Silver Service Star, one Bronze Service Star, the America Defense Service Robbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 25, 1945.
He then went to work for Cockfield Saltwater Disposal/Exxon and after many years retired. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #748 for over 52 years.
Prior to leaving for the war, Sam met and won the love of his wife, Ercelle Jeffcote. They were married in Conroe on July 12, 1941.
Sam leaves behind his wife whom he loved faithfully for 59 years. He also leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Robert Nichols of Conroe, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Lynn Chron of Conroe; his two granddaughters, Amber Nichols of Dallas, Texas and Kari Renee Nichols and fiancee Scott Reaves of Conroe; grandsons, Allan and Michael Franks of Trinity, Texas; and various nieces, nephews, and family members also survive.
Sam was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and was loved by the members who will sorely miss him. His smile and cheerful spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Obituary of Delena Mae Cron Goodwin (1920-2000)
Longtime Talkeetna, Alaska, resident Delena Mae Goodwin, 79, died peacefully January 25, 2000, at her home with her oldest son and daughter present. A funeral will be at 1:00PM Monday at Montana Creek Baptist Church, Mile 98 Parks Hwy in Willow. Interment at Kashwitna Cemetery will follow the service. The Rev. Gerry Etherton will officiate.
Mrs. Goodwin was born July 1, 1920, in Baxter, Missouri to Samuel H. and Clara Maude (Jackson) Cron. She married Albert L. Goodwin November 1, 1935, in Blue Eye, Missouri. She traveled over most of the United States west of the Mississippi River, always returning to Missouri, until moving from Portland, Oregon to Alaska in 1967 with her husband and seven of their twelve children. They settled in Talkeetna. She was a founding member of Montana Creek Baptist Church. She was active in the Senior Citizens, Talkeetna Historical Society, the Homemakers Club and VFW.
According to her family, "She was known for her humor, sewing and love for friends and family. She was committed to her community and served it in many ways. She made her family's lives beautiful wherever they were and in whatever circumstances they were in. She was like a wild rose, she bloomed wherever she was planted."
Mrs. Goodwin is survived by her sons, Gene of Palmer, Alaska, Wayne of Weiser, Idaho, Larry of Portland, Oregon, Jack of Willow, Alaska, Mark of Talkeetna, Alaska; and William of McGrath, Alaska; her daughters, Ruth Youngblood of Reeds Spring, Missouri, Judy Oliver of Jerome, Idaho, Juanita Tedrick of Columbia Falls, Montana, and De'Lena Johnson of Palmer, Alaska; by 36 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Sammy of Pomeroy, Washington, Harrison of Moses Lake, Washington, Arvern of Raytown, Missouri and Delmar of Lampe, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Chloe, her husband, Albert, and sons Delwin and Samuel.

Chloe M. Parton was born December 5, 1928, near Blue Eye, Mo, as a daughter of Samuel H. and Clara (Jackson) Cron. She departed this life one June 17, at the Boone County Hospital in Harrison, after a long illness.
She was a member of the Highview Assembly of God Church in Lampe, Mo. She was united in Marriage with Jay T. Parton May 17, 1946, and her husband survives her.
Other survivors include three sons, Darrell Parton, of Green Forest, Herbert Parton, of Blue Eye, Mo, and Wendell Parton, of Lampe, Mo; one daughter, Clara Tittsworth of Oak Grove, Ark; her stepmother, Mae Cron of Branson, Mo; four brothers Sammy Cron of Yakima, Wa, Harrison Cron, of Seattle, Wa, Arvern Cron, of Raytown, Mo, and Delmar Cron of Milburn, Ok; one sister, Delena Goodwin of Fairbanks, Ak; nine grandchildren; several other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Wells passed away Thursday morning, July 29, 2004, at her Ralls home. She was born May 3, 1926, in Plumerville, Ark., to John Henry and Sarah Nancy Taylor Moore. She was a graduate of North Little Rock (Ark.) High School. She married Dewey Edward Wells on April 23, 1946, in Little Rock and moved to Ralls that same year. She was an active member of the Ralls First Baptist Church where she taught the Junior Department Sunday School Class for many years. She was an election Judge for Crosby County Precinct 4 for many years. She and Dewey were honored as "Mr. & Mrs. Cotton Boll" in 2000 by the Ralls Chamber of Commerce. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her parents and by a son, Dwayne Wells who passed away July 10, 1990. She is survived by her husband, Dewey Wells of Ralls; a son, Wayne Wells of Plano; a daughter, Sharon Bostick of Brownwood; two sisters, Mary Hay of Maumelle, Ark., and Dottie Speights of North Little Rock; four grandchildren, Mike Bostick of Lubbock, Don Bostick and wife Stephanie of Brownwood, Lisa Meacham and husband Justin of Tulsa, Okla., and Alex Wells of Dallas; and two great- grandchildren, Dylan and Dustin Bostick of Brownwood. Services for Dewey Edward Wells, Jr., 79, of Ralls will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Ralls First Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Haddock, the Rev. Larry Carson and the Rev. Ken Bevel officiating. Burial will be in the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls He died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Southwest Regional Medical Complex in Lubbock.
Dewey was born Sept. 1, 1925 in Kansas City, Mo. to Dewey Edward, Sr. and Betty Mae (Chron) Wells. On April 23, 1946, he married Margie Rea Moore in Little Rock, Ark. She died July 29, 2004. He was a graduate of Ralls High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Texas Tech University. He was a member and a deacon of the Ralls First Baptist Church. Dewey was a member of Emma Lodge No. 931, where he was a 32nd degree Mason and Past Master, the Ralls Order of the Eastern Star, where he was a Past Patron, and the order of the Shrine. He was a charter member of both the Ralls Lions Club and the Ralls Jaycees.
Dewey served on the Crosby County Fuel Board, the PCA board of directors for 30 years, and the Ralls Co-op Gin Board. Mr. Wells was honored as the Ralls Chamber of Commerce Citizen Through the Years in 1994, and he and his wife were named "Mr. and Mrs. Cotton Boll in 2000. He was the first person to be recognized as Outstanding Alumni of the Ralls High School Agriculture Dept. in 1981. He is also preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Lynn Wells, July 10, 1990.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Wells of Plano; a daughter, Sharon Bostick of Brownwood; a brother, Elmer Wells of Ralls; four grandchildren, Mike Bostick of Lubbock, Don Bostick and his wife, Stephanie, of Brownwood, Lisa Meacham and her husband, Justin, of Tulsa, Okla., and Alex Wells of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Dustin Bostick of Brownwood. He moved from Charleston 13 years ago after being employed here as a fireman. Mr. Chron was employed as a machine operator in the city. CHRON, E.C., Minister and Evangelist for over 50 years, went to be with his Lord on Jan. 30, 2008 in Carrollton, TX, following a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Ralls, TX on Feb. 6, 1927 and graduated from Ralls High School. He attended Texas Tech and graduated from Wayland Baptist University. He is survived by his devoted wife, Melba Jo Reinhard of 61 years and 4 children: Clint Chron, Josa Perry, Deanna Sauerzopf and Tami Jones. He has 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Virgil Allen, Bob and Ivan and one sister: Minnie Nell Orm.
